This and That in Glendora Village & Happy Labor Day!

            Mark your calendar for next Friday, Sept. 5, when Visiting Angels Glendora hosts its Free Shredding Day from 9-10 a.m. in its parking lot located at 131 E. Foothill Blvd., Glendora.

            RSVP to have your paperwork shredded here. 

            Tax records should be kept ive to seven years, but you should check with your CPA.

            The shredded accepts staples and folders, but not binders or boxes. The last shredding will be taken at 10 a. m.

Knot Too Shabby Workshop Sept. 20

            Michelle Rivard, owner of Knot Too Shabby home furninshings, is taking reservations for the next Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint Workshop on Sept. 20 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Flashback a success -- thanks!

            Thanks to all of you who turned out to enjoy last Saturday’s 27th annual Flashback presented by the Glendora Kiwanis and Glendora Chamber of Commerce. It was a rousing success, thanks to you, and raised funds for scholarships and business improvement projects.

Discount Tickets Available for Glendora Day at the Fair


             The Los Angeles County Fair opens next Friday, offering plenty of family fun, delicious foods, shopping bargains, rockin’ concerts and adorable farm animals.

            Each year, various cities are honored by a Community Day at the Fair and Glendora Day at the Fair will be Sept. 24.

            Glendora Day will include a Business Expo, Community Days parade, high school marching band competition, and Community Hero awards ceremony honoring Olivia Andonian, Cliff Hamlow, and Doris Blum.    

            Tickets at $5 for Glendora Day at the Fair are available online using the promo code Glendora.

            Or you can print out this coupon and take it to any Fair admission gate and pay $5.

            Singer Jason Derulo with special guest Luke Christopher will perform Sept. 24 as part of the Fair’s End of Summer Concert Series.

            Luminasia, presented by Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa, lights up LACF’s hillside with a spectacular, larger-than-life Asian themed and whimsical lanterns. No exhibition of its kind has ever been seen in California, and it’s only at the Fair.

This and That Along the Avenue of Glendora Village

 Flashback is tomorrow in the Village

        The 27th Annual Flashback Classic Car and Motorcycle Show ‪‎ Fundraiser takes over Glendora Village next Saturday, August 23, from 6 p.m.-11 p.m. Tickets are still available.

            Glendora Village streets will be closed at 3 p.m. for vehicles and at 5 p.m. for pedestrians, so get your shopping done early tomorrow.

            Many Glendora Village stores and restaurants will be open during Flashback, so check them out!

            Flashback is presented by the Glendora Kiwanis Club and the Glendora Chamber of Commerce.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge continues

         The Fight ALS Ice Bucket Challenge  keeps rolling along since we first reported Visiting Angels Glendora’s participation on Monday, when donations had totaled $10 million. Donations have reached $53.3 mil since then.

            Another Glendora Village business owner, Jerry Nicholas of the Glendora Floor Store, also accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge and posted his own video on Facebook.

Join the Ice Bucket Challenge to Beat ALS


             It’s sweeping the nation – celebrities, athletes, regular folks, kids, everyone is accepting the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

            It even came to Glendora Village when Visiting Angels Glendora accepted a cross-country #ICEBUCKETCHALLENGE from Visiting Angels of Maryland.

            “We have had the privilege of caring for many ALS clients over the years,” noted the Glendora Visiting Angels in their Facebook post, where they also posted a YouTube video of the dousing. “We took the challenge AND we gave $100 to ALS.”

            Part of accepting the chilly challenge is to challenge other organizations, friends, family, anyone to do a dousing and raise funds for ALS research.

            Visiting Angels has challenged the ARDENT Group, Glendora City Council members and Visiting Angels Upland.

            As of Saturday, Aug. 16, more than $10 million was raised through the Ice Bucket Challenge. See www.alsa.org for more information and how to donate!

Midnight Madness Comes to Undercovers, Periwinkle Tonight

            Carol Gill, owner of Undercovers Intimate Apparel,  is hosting another Midnight Madness Sale tonight from 6-10 p.m.

            She’ll close the store at 5 p.m. to get ready for the party and sale, and reopen at 6.

            “You’ll never see things priced this low again,” Carol said. Sale items include panties, socks, hosiery, bed wear and lounge wear.

            Glendora Library re-opens on Monday with a new look, thanks to new carpeting in the main room and Children’s Room.







            The library has been closed since July 28 to allow plenty of time for the installation.

You Can ‘Lunch and Learn’ How to Cook at Village Kitchen Shoppe


            Chef Dede Turner, co-owner of the Village Kitchen Shoppe  in Glendora Village with Carol Harrell,  invites folks to “Lunch and Learn” how to cook.

            Her “Lunch and Learn” cooking classes are held each Friday at 11 a.m. at the shop located at 147 N. Glendora Ave. Cost is $25 per person and registration is available by calling (626) 914-7897.

            This Friday the menu includes Summer Vegetable Salad with Peaches and Avocado BLT’s with Basil Mayo.

            On Aug. 22 students will learn about Skillet Macaroni n Cheese with Artichokes Fennel Slaw.

            On Aug. 29 the menu include Chile Con Carne and Skillet Cornbread.


            Sept. 5’s menu is Three Pepper Pork Tenderloin with Peach Cucumber Salad Grilled Naan with Greek Yogurt.

LucaBella Fine Foods Opens Today in Glendora Village

            Chef Christian Felippa brings his popular LucaBella Fine Foods to Glendora Village today.

             LucaBella attracted many guests to enjoy breakfast and lunch at its former location in the Albertson’s Shopping Center on Route 66.

            Now LucaBella is located at 216 N. Glendora Ave., in Glendora Village. Open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. to serve lunch, breakfast and dinner schedules are  being planned.



            Christian brings his extensive restaurant experience to the new location:

            * Original owner of Caffe Pannini in Corona del Mar,

            * Was sous chef at Citrus Restaurant in Hollywood, 

             *Mosun Restaurant in Laguna Beach,

            The 2014 Flashback, Classic Car and Motorcycle Show takes place Aug. 23, 6-11 p.m. in Glendora Village. This is the largest end-of-summer party in the east San Gabriel Valley.



            The Glendora Kiwanis and the Glendora Chamber of Commerce present the 27th annual event that showcases a wide selection of classic cars, trucks, hot rods, and motorcycles that will line Glendora Avenue.

            There will be live continuous entertainment, car/motorcycle show awards, a Kids Fun Zone, delicious  food choices and beer/wine available for adults 21 and over.
           
            Tickets are $12 for adults over 17,  $8 for children 10 – 16, $10 seniors, Children under 10 are free. Be sure to visit the Chamber, sponsors or the Village merchants for a $2 discount coupon.

            The 2014 Flashback collectable T-Shirt will be available at information booth for $12. All proceeds going to scholarships and business improvement projects.
