First-Ever Gumby Fest to be Celebrated in Glendora June 14

             Two weeks from tomorrow, the inaugural Gumby Fest will be held June 14 on the grounds of Glendora City Hall and Glendora Library.

            Gumby, the world’s original clayboy and pop-culture legend who starred in more than 230 TV episodes and a movie, “grew up” in Glendora, where the iconic TV series was produced from 1960 to the late 1970s.

            The celebration of all-things Gumby, as well as stop motion animation including Davey & Goliath (also produced in Glendora) will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m at the corner of Glendora Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

            Among the free family fun at Gumby Fest 2014:
·        “Gumby Through the Years” presented by Joe Clokey, son of Gumby creator Art Clokey;
·        Gumby Museum with memorabilia provided by the Clokey family and Gumby studio Premavision, Inc.;
·        Film screenings of Gumby cartoons, as well as stop motion animation videos submitted to the festival;
·        A Kids’ Stop Motion Animation Studio conducted by animation artists from Stoopid Buddies Stoodios, home to the longest running stop motion show on television, Robot Chicken. Children will learn how to produce a stop motion video they can take home after the festival;
·        Panel discussions about the past, present and future of stop motion animation with representatives from Laika Studios, producers of ParaNorman and next September’s BoxTrolls, as well as “Meet Gumby’s Gang” -- many stop motion animators who worked with Art Clokey to produce Gumby;
·        Plenty of family activities, kids crafts, photo opportunities with Gumby, and more;
·        A Gumby Store, booths of various vendors and community organizations, and many food trucks.

      Gumby Fest is produced by the Glendora Chamber of Commerce, Glendora Community Services, Glendora Library, Glendora Rotary, and Premavision Inc.

Not Too Late to Sign Up for Glendora’s Relay for Life

            Many Glendora Village businesses support the city’s Relay for Life and you can too by registering for the event that takes place Saturday May 17 and Sunday May 18 at Louie Pompeii Sports Park.

            For information about joining the Relay or donating click this link.

            Communities around the world come together to honor cancer survivors, remember lost loved ones, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. The funds raised make a difference in the fight against cancer.

            Relay For Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.

            The Schedule:

            9 a.m. Saturday: The Opening Ceremony brings everyone together for a high-energy event kickoff to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, to inspire hope by sharing recent accomplishments and progress, and to remind everyone that while we are winning this battle, fighting cancer is a year-round priority.

            9:30 a.m. Survivors Lap: During the Survivors Lap, upbeat music plays as all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track cheered on by the other participants who line the track, celebrating their victory over cancer.

            8 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony: The Luminaria Ceremony is a time to remember people we have lost to cancer, to support people who currently have cancer, and to honor people who have fought cancer in the past. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope.

            9 a.m. Sunday Fight Back: The Fight Back Ceremony symbolizes the emotional commitment we each make to the fight against cancer. The action we take represents what we are willing to do for ourselves, for our loved ones, and for our community to fight cancer year-round and to commit to saving lives.

            9 a.m. Closing Ceremony: The Closing Ceremony is a time to remember the lives of those lost and to celebrate that each of us has committed, through our participation in a Relay event, to fight back against this disease over the next year.
