Eighty
artists will take over The Avenue tomorrow (rain date next Saturday, April 19)
during the 2014 Chalk Festival.
The
sidewalks between along Glendora Avenue from Foothill Boulevard to Bennett
Avenue will become canvasses for the artworks created by artists of all ages.
Artists compete
in three age divisions: Juniors (10-13 years), Students (14-17 years), and
Adults (18+ years). More than $500 in cash prizes will be awarded: Best of Show $100, Crowd Favorite $100, best
3D Design $100. There will be two winners in each division: $75 adult winners, $50 student winners, $25
junior winners.
You don’t
have to be an artist to enjoy the festival. You can even vote for the “Crowd
Favorite” winner.

The popular
Children’s Chalk Garden in the parking lot adjacent to Southland Properties
gives little ones a chance participate as artists to try their hand drawing
with chalk on 2-foot by 2-foot squares for 50 cents for a small bag of chalk.
For the
first time, there will be a Community Canvas with the theme “Everything
Glendorable” will be featured for $1 a square. The Featured Artists Arena in
the Village Plaza will include free face painting and a balloon artist, a
caricature artist for $5 per portrait, painter Lucienda Chalmers, handmade
cigar box musical instruments creator Richard Briggs and handmade ceramic bowls
by Celia Hurera.
There will
be stand-up wooden cutout props for photo opps all along Glendora Avenue and
musical entertainment will be performed by students of SING INC and the Keener
Music Studio.
