Glendora
will join the nation to celebrate the annual National Night Out community event
on Tuesday Aug. 5.
During the
annual event residents around the country go out at dusk to enjoy their
communities safely. This is the 31st year National Night Out has
been celebrated.
The evening
is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support
for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood
spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals
letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back, officials
said.
From 5:30
to 9 p.m., residents will join the Glendora Police Department by attending the
NNO event at the Village Bus Transit Plaza in the center of Glendora Village.
Glendora
Police Department will host a variety of special events during that time, such
as a “Dunk a Cop” dunk tank fundraiser for Explorer Post #402.
The
Glendora Police Officers Association will serve free hot dogs to attendees.
There will also Ce free face painting, free child fingerprinting.
There will be displays by
the Motor Officers, Special Enforcement Team, the Social Media Team,
Auxiliaries, GEARS (ham radio operators), a Safety Booster seat check, along
with music, games, prizes and much more. This month’s “Coffee with a Cop” will
also be held at this event.
Attendees can feel what it's like in a 3.5-magnitude earthquake in the Los
Angeles County Fire Department’s “Shakey Quakey” schoolhouse trailer. The simulated earthquake is complete
with falling objects and sounds, giving attendees a chance to “duck and cover.”
